EventOn Calendar

My Overview

A robust calendar that looks great right out of the box. I have used this on dozens of church websites for five years and recommend it whenever I can.

As far as church plugins for calendar areas or event’s pages go this one goes above and beyond. Most church sites on WordPress seem to have one of those cheesy full month cals that look like a Google cal embed with 89 different things on them and it’s a pain to find the conference or event your looking for.

EventOn lets your streamline your online events, cut out the fluff, and look good doing it.

If they had a developer’s license for unlimited sites this could be what I use on a regular. While I do use it on one-off custom sites at times, I couldn’t use it on every site because it’s a new license for every site. So if you are making a lot of sites, this isn’t the option for you.

However, I’m willing to bet most of you reading this are looking for something just for your church’s site. This could be a good solution for you.  I really enjoy using it.

Key Features

  • Looks amazing right out of the box. You don’t need a ‘integrated theme’ or PHP know how.
  • Has a great library of additional plugins to increase functionality depending on your needs.
  • Add calendar anywhere via shortcode, not just archive pages.
  • Beautiful minimalistic design that is just enough. Not overbearing and intrusive.
  • Different views that can be tweaked easily via shortcode.

My Considerations

Visually it is beautiful to look at. This is hands down the most visually appealing ‘out of the box’ calendar I use.

It’s pretty well coded. It’s the only plugin from Codecanyon that I still actively use. I’ve been using this plugin for nearly 5 years now!

I have had a few complications where it conflicts with gravity forms embedded in the event info (think a form for event registration). Gravity blamed EventOn and vice versa, but we eventually got it worked out!

AshanJay (the dev) is pretty responsive in the forums. He and another guy handle the support and generally it’s helpful.

The shortcodes are easy to create and versatile for whatever you need them for.

What do you do for events that require registration?

    • Andrew Peters on August 14, 2014 at 1:34 PM

Hey there Andrew! One cool thing about EventOn is that it links to EventBrite. So if you create the event on EventBrite you can link EventOn to it and fulfill the registrations on your website.

Another option, if it is a pretty simple registration, is using Gravity Forms (connected to PayPal, Stripe, whatever you use), and inserting a form into the event’s tab on EventOn and collecting registrations that way.

Hope this helps! Let me know!

Also for event registrations we use the bluefire giving system. It’s like paypal for churches on steroids and is built for non-profits. In a church called The Summit is using Bluefire for a conference right now. http://summitcrestview.com/START

Hi Andrew. Do you know of a way to allow users to subscribe to the entire event calendar instead of just adding a single event? We had this on a previous plugin, but eventon looks so much better.

Hey there! EventOn does not have that capability. I also have been using WordPress Pro Event Calendar quite frequently. They have subscribe capability and the look is not terribly different than EventOn.

Hey Revawd, I wanted to give you a heads up that Eventon does handle subrscribing to a calendar now!
